How much do devices cost?

Posted on January 17th, by Robin Freeman in . No Comments

It’s important to note that this is a research project. Our aim is to provide the designs, schematics and source-code for users to fabricate and program their own devices. Our estimate of PCB and parts costs for the current device versions is approximately £100 (as of Janauary). However, it’s important to stress that this is just the cost of boards, components and assembly. Employing someone to do this may cost extra and parts cost will vary with availability (buying lots of components will likely reduce costs).

We’re currently exploring ways to make devices available for researchers to buy ready-fabricated (at no-profit to us) from vendors. If you’re interested in making devices available, please get in touch: info@mataki.org

Also, in collaboration with Microsoft Research and the Zoological Society of London, we’ve made 100 devices available for selected project – see the collaboration page: http://mataki.org/collaborate/
